last day in Egypt

Today was my last day in Egypt. I did not want to leave so soon but I had too. The airport was a cool place, a little like the Santa Barbara airport. When I went to get on the plane it you had to walk though a mini desert of a runway covered with sand, first. On the plane I thought about the lessons I learned. The one that really stood out in my mind was that we have it so much easier here in the States. One thing that really opened my mind to that is the crew on my ship. They told me that they had to Carry water form the nearest well all the way back to their house witch if more then 5 miles. I had a very good time in Egypt and I hope I will learn this much in all of my travels.

Today I was aboard a felucca upon the Nile. Event though they are small we were racing across the water. The crew that I had hired were very nice but did not speak much English so I had trouble talking to them. They said that they came form a small village to the north, and that an organisation called H2O Africa saved their villages life by building a well in the middle of the village. That really moved me when he said that and when I got back to my hotel I donated 20$ to H2o Africa.org.

Mount Sinai

At the very beginning of the day I knew that I had a tough day about. Me and my guide started to scale Mount Sinai so we could see the sun set on top of this holy mountain. We were planning to pitch camp at the top. Since I have barely scaled anything before I was very excited. To my despair I was a 5 hour hike to the steep part of the mountain. When I finally got there I was amazed to see a 200 foot cliff towering above me. I was saying I could not do it but I convinced myself to try. After 50 feet I started to get the hang of it and raced up the cliff. At the top I watched the sunset well inhaling the fums of the many bushs at the peak of mount Sinai, where I write to you now.

Abydos

My pilgrimage to Abydos was amazing.  It was tough to hike for that long though the desert but it payed off.  There where 5 different pieces of the gods body, all in different coffins.  The weirdest part is that they made it a tourist location because they have many different hotels and restaurants.  There was so much to do there that it would to a year to do everything,  but I had to get back to my hotel because it was getting late

oasis of Dakhla

The Dalkha Oasis is a very cool place. It contains two small town in its shelter. The first one that I visited was Mut. What I found was that most of the houses where ether mad of brick or mud. I visited one of the 600 hot springs. It was getting late so I decided to go in The Abu Mohamed Restaurant witch is in Al-Qasr. I think the Dalkha Oasis will be the most fun place I will go on this trip.

Giza

The pyramids of Giza where the greatest thing I every seen. When I touched their sandpaper like rocks I thought of all the work that was put into making that block of stone. The weirdest thing happened next, I saw three runners jogging up to the pyramids. I went up to them and asked them why they were running out here in the desert. They said that they were trying to cross the Sahara desert. I thought they were crazy but said my farewells politely and left. I think they would be the most interesting people I would meet on this tip.

Cairo

I am writing to you as I am going to sleep after my fantastic day in Cairo. I arrived in egypt at 9:00 am and wanted to get strait to sightseeing. After a very long hour of waiting in a bus to get to the city, Bam! there I was in the streets of the Cairo. The first thing that I wanted to see was the Birqash Camel Market (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/egypt/cairo/birqash-camel-market or http://www.tripwolf.com/en/guide/show/17586/Egypt/Cairo/Birqash-Camel-Market). I also walked around seeing that all the women had cloths around their heads. It was getting late at I was getting hungry so I went into the nearest restaurant and orders the local favorite kushari. It tasted of lentils, pasta and rice. It was very Delicious. After I ate it was getting dark so I came back to my hotel where i am writing to you now.

7 things I would want to do in Egypt

Explore the streets of Cairo

Gaze at the pyramids of Giza

Trek to the Dakhla Oasis

Make a pilgrimage to Abydos

Climb Mount Sinai

Board a felucca on the Nile

watch the sands roll over the dunes in the desert.

1).  The first place I would go in Egypt would be Cairo. Most of the time it is covered in smog but when its clear I would go out in an instant.  With 20 million residents I think it would have a great night life to.

2).  On the 2ND day I would go see the glorious pyramids of Giza.  I would also see the great Sphinx that stand guard to these wonders.
3).  Sometimes the outskirt of Egypt is called the Great Sand Sea.  I think they call it that because there are thousands of rolling dunes that are ever changing.
4).  After seeing the desert I would rest in the Dakhla Oasis.  Where medieval oasis dwellers used to live.
5).  I could not forget to climb Mount Sinai where so many thing of lithely biblical proportians happened.

Fetching water
Hey I am so happy you sent me this picture of you fetching water to feed and bathe your family. I think that is so brave to walk all that way just for water at such a young age. I would just walk to the local gelsons and buy a gallon of water and carrie it back. walking 3 miles would be out of the question for me but then you have to carrie it back would be impossible for me. On Wensday my class carried water on our head in our hand and I don't know how you could do because some people could no carry that much for 5 feet and they are much older then you when that picture got taken.
Is there a trick to carry water on your head because when I did it I the jug kepped falling off my head but luckily i had a cap. I think that what you do every day is amazing and I love to travel to your contry just to see it.

God Grew Tired Of Us

Yesterday I traveled to Sudan to see my friend Daniel so we could hang out a bit. I was surprised when he brought his two friends Panther and John along. After talking for a while the boys decided that they wanted to show me something and we got on bikes and biked. After biking for a while I said, “Where are we going?” and Daniel said that we were going to bike on the rout took when walking away from the war. When we were biking the men told me.” However hard the road ahead seems you if you keep trying you will succeed.” Then I asked them if that was what they where thinking of when they where on their journey? Then they said “How do you think we got crossed this desert.”
When I got back on the plane heading to America the whole time I was thinking of what Daniel meant. In that last 30 minutes of the flight I had got what he had said and it was “Whenever you thing your going down try to get back up and keep going.”

Bolivia

Resources: tin, natural gas, petroleum, zinc, tungsten, antimony, silver, iron, lead, gold, timber, hydropower

Geography:

rugged Andes Mountains with a highland plateau (Altiplano), hills, lowland plains of the Amazon Basin

Population: 9,775,246

Heath:

Economic Status: Bolivia is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America. Following a disastrous economic crisis during the early 1980s, reforms spurred private investment, stimulated economic growth, and cut poverty rates in the 1990s. The period 2003-05 was characterized by political instability, racial tensions, and violent protests against plans - subsequently abandoned - to export Bolivia's newly discovered natural gas reserves to large northern hemisphere markets. In 2005, the government passed a controversial hydrocarbons law that imposed significantly higher royalties and required foreign firms then operating under risk-sharing contracts to surrender all production to the state energy company. In early 2008, higher earnings for mining and hydrocarbons exports pushed the current account surplus to 9.4% of GDP and the government's higher tax take produced a fiscal surplus after years of large deficits. Private investment as a share of GDP, however, remains among the lowest in Latin America, and inflation remained at double-digit levels in 2008. The decline in commodity prices in late 2008, the lack of foreign investment in the mining and hydrocarbon sectors, and the suspension of trade benefits with the United States will pose challenges for the Bolivian economy in 2009.

Cups of tea

Taste is a wonderful thing. So I would take Emanuel to Paradise Café to have a piece of their Paradise Pie. Then I would take him to the Sterns wharf to see dolphins and eat ice cream. After we ate ice cream I would take him to the Brofy Brothers restaurant to eat Lobster and drink Root Beer. After that we would go to the Douglas Preserve to watch the sunset.
As at touch I would want Emanuel to go down to the ocean. I think he would love the cold seawater crash against his chest.
Then we would go fishing on the wharf and he would feel the slimy fish plop into his lap.
After fishing we would ride our bikes around town and he would feel the sweat on his handlebars and his foot pushing down on the pedal.
The touch that I would share with Emanuel is the touch of the stonewalls of my house. They are very cold and I love their feel.
Maybe we could climb up them like I love to do and even I can do it with one leg. Then I would take him to the beach to feel the sand run though his fingers. I think he would love the touch of the warm white sand.
The sound that I think that Emanuel would like the most is the crickets at night. We would go out and sit in my yard and just listen. We would most likely hear owls hooting and maybe my cats meowing. I wonder if he would be scared of raccoons and skunks because they don’t have them he lives.
The person that I would like to introduce him to would be john. I think that John SB would be so happy to meet such an amazing person. Maybe John and Emanuel would go biking together and have a great time.
The smell that I would show Emanuel would be brownies cooking in the over. He could help me mix the batter and put them in the oven. We could even make Pumpkin Pie. That would be the greatest smell of all.
The one thing that I would learn from Emanuel coming to Santa Barbara is that you don’t need legs to do everything in life. You can still be a greatly successful person without a pair of legs. I think that most of all that back at his home he could teach the people a thing or two.
